I would like to express how thankful I am that I have a Pre-Paid Legal
membership and attorneys like (our provider attorney). With just a
short letter (he) was able to collect $2500 for me.
I recently did a training in Columbus, Ohio, for my Pre-Paid Legal
team. I flew back home on a Sunday night, on a flight that was delayed
in Chicago. When I arrived in Moline, Illinois, that night, my luggage
did not. I went to the claims counter and filled out a lost luggage
claim form and went home. The next morning the airline called and said
they had my luggage and it would be delivered to my home within the
next two hours. Several hours later they called back and said they had
lost the luggage again. Evidently the bag was put on the luggage
carousal and was taken by someone else. They advised me to give them
three days to find the bag. Three days later when the bag had not
turned up they told me to start the claim process.
For anyone who has lost luggage, “the claim process” is a
nightmare. The airline allows you 45 days to find receipts for
everything that was in the lost luggage. You then fill out a seven
page form and mail or fax it in. No receipts means no payment. After
taking two hours to fill out the forms, I faxed in the paperwork. A
week later I called the claims department to check the status of my
claim. As you can imagine I was very upset when I was told there was
no claim pending on my lost luggage. They could not find the claim I
had submitted. I immediately faxed the claim back into the claims
department. About a week later I again checked on the status of my
claim. This will sound unbelievable, but again they had lost the claim
I had made. They lost my luggage twice in 24 hours and now two claims!
I informed the lady that they had also lost my business and I would be
contacting my attorney. I was very rudely told that calling an
attorney dose not scare them, and that if they did not have my claim
within 45 days of the original lost luggage date I would not be
compensated for my loss. I was also informed that after they received
the claim paperwork, I could expect reimbursement in 6-8 weeks.
I called my provider law firm immediately. (My provider attorney)
returned my call shortly. I informed him of everything that had
happened along with the names of everyone I had talked to. I faxed him
all the paperwork, including my claim form. He then wrote a two page
letter to the airlines. Ten days after (he) sent out the letter, I
received a written apology from the airlines and a check for $2,500!!
When dealing with an organization as large as the airline industry,
one must have an attorney to be heard. I thank God for Pre-Paid Legal
Services Inc. and great attorney’s like (my provider attorney).
